Gregg MacDonald : Gregg started as a mobile DJ in 1989, performing at general functions, bars and nightclubs and hasn't stopped since. He left the house party and bar scene behind and took the necessary steps in refining his skills to focus on weddings. He performed his first wedding in 1994 and performs 60 weddings a year. Professional, organized, easygoing and he knows his music. Old enough to remember the Oldies, young enough to keep up with today's Top 40. Gregg's MC style is conservative, making announcements only when necessary in a professional manner. As a DJ, he's always accessible, selecting and mixing every song manually and isn't afraid to dig deep into his bag of tricks. Gregg keeps a busy schedule because of his knowledge of music, laid-back personality and no-nonsense style of DJ entertainment. Born and raised in North Weymouth, Gregg has lived on the South Shore his entire life and currently resides in Duxbury. No flashy DJ name or rock star attitude here. Gregg is a down to earth, regular guy and a diehard Patriots, Celtics, Bruins and Red Sox fan. He enjoys a Montecristo #2 and a glass of Macallan when he can find the time and plans to open a cigar shop when he retires.
Gregg on today's wedding DJ :
"The general opinion is wedding DJs are cheesy and annoying. I wouldn't go that far, but I will agree there are DJs with huge egos who can't put the microphone down or refrain from stealing the spotlight. I'm not an innovator, but my reputation was built on "less is more" with tasteful presentation and professional behavior. When it comes to music, I find that too many DJs play it safe and are afraid to throw anything different in the mix. They play the standard wedding mix. Instrumental Jazz for cocktail hour, Easy Listening during dinner, Disco, Oldies and a little Top 40 for dancing and that's it, wedding over. Same music, different wedding. While that's ok for some people, I know that brides and grooms today want more variety, something different that will separate their wedding from the next. I never wanted to be just another DJ going through the motions. It doesn't take talent to play the same overplayed songs or throw a bag of cheap hats out to the crowd and play YMCA. Any DJ can do that. It's about playing the right songs at the right time."
"Everyone thinks being a wedding DJ is all fun and games. We get paid to party. While I enjoy the business and honored to have been trusted by many to be an intricate part of their special day, very few people see or understand the time and effort that goes into every performance. This is why I hear a lot of stories of under-qualified DJs who fail to exceed expectations and the end result is often a poorly executed, uneventful, boring wedding. What appears to be seamless comes from experience and detailed preparation. For me to approach weddings as if no effort is required implies I'm too comfortable where I am and trust me, I'm my worst critic. After most weddings, I typically end my night on my deck with a cigar and my thoughts. Instead of basking in the glow of putting another wedding in the books, I look back on the evening and often dwell on where I can make improvements, what I can do better. This is how I maintain my edge."
